Dear Parents,
Hope everyone enjoyed the time off for Spring Break. It’s nice to be back together! Report cards will be coming home soon. You may keep the report but, please sign and return the envelope. Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions. We have just begun our last quarter of this school year!
The Woodstock Read-a-Thon was a great success as students read ‘like pirates’ to increase literacy, enjoy books, log those reading minutes, and help our school with this fund raising effort. The pancake breakfast was well attended and the assembly was enjoyed by all. Our brave principal even ‘walked the plank’! The culminating field trip to the Living Planet Aquarium was a treat. Thank you to the many volunteers who make our school a great place to learn. Hooray for our fantastic PTA members and parent community!
In Math, we continue our study of data and graphs. Soon we will move into geometry and fraction concepts. We have begun a review of our math fact sets. It is time to cement those important addition and subtraction facts. In third grade, students will be memorizing the multiplication facts. A solid foundation is needed to build upon! Xtramath.org is a great practice site. Two of our classmates have passed all of their addition & subtraction facts and are working on multiplication now. Others are very close!
Our reading unit is “Let’s Make a Difference.” The comprehension strategy is to make predictions when reading and then, summarize. In grammar, we are working on contractions, suffixes, and pronouns.
We continue to be enriched by parent volunteers: Meet the Master’s art project-Eisley’s mother; Meet the Author (Jack Prelutsky)-Vi’s grandmother; and aquarium field trip chaperones-parents/grandparents of Xander, Emily, Bridger, Hadlyn and Vi. Thanks to each one!
Upcoming events:
o April 3 Living Planet Aquarium Rainforest van visiting our 2nd grade classes
o April 12 Field trip to Murray City Hall & Museum 9:30 to 11:00
o April 25 Field trip to This is the Place Heritage Park 10:00 to 12:30
Chaperones are invited. So far, one parent has volunteered. Let me know if you are interested and available. (Sorry, no younger siblings.) A separate note will follow regarding sack lunches needed from the cafeteria for April 25.
Best wishes,
Mrs. Williams
